Character Update Requests
Sure, you are responsible for updating your own character, but how are you going to do that without any awards? Experience, TM/HM Learning, Friendship, and Evolution are determined by the following factors:
A: When a player wants them, they want to ask for them obviously.
B: When a player makes a request, the moderator/administrator answers their call and helps them find a way to get it.
C: In the case of evolution, obviously you would want to have the required items before you go into the topic. In the case of a TM/HM Learn, you have to have the required TM/HM before continuing.
So this thread is the thread for requests. You request after you finish your roleplaying topic, either with another player, or as a SINGLE POST training session. When you request, a moderator or an administrator will answer with your experience totals, and, if you wished for evolution or a move change, then the result of that will be answered as well. When the admin or mod confirms your request with awards, ONLY THEN can you update your own character update topic with the appropriate information.
You must also use the following form, to help us know exactly what you want changed, so on and so forth.
You obviously are responsible for actually leveling up your Pokemon, and, obviously, with level ups, you get to change your moveset by level if need be, so on and so forth.
Below are exact instructions on how to go about teaching Pokemon different things, or helping them evolve, or what have you, as well as how things are awarded to Pokemon or the Human/Pokemorph character.
Experience Gain
Everyone gets experience through various things, right? Well, on Kinamoto, there are various ways to gain experience other than the obvious battle structure.
- Battles are the most common way to gain experience, and that's potentially two characters gaining experience right there!
- Training is another way to gain experience, whether it be training a move or how to use wings or flippers. Even something as creative as 'how to dodge a 100% accurate attack' is acceptable, though do not expect your characters to all of a sudden be able to do something as uncanny as dodging a 100% accurate attack. That takes many training sessions and ample amounts of time. And a moderator who will allow you to do that without assailing you.
- Random encounters that make use of a Pokmeon/Human/Pokemorph's special ability, such as flying or using their vines.
Any of the three listed ways will earn you Experience points, and, in the cases of learning how to gain another attack, and most if not all cases of evolution, you will gain Experience. Since it is the easiest, your posts will be closely examined for experience gain based upon the following items:
- The overall length of the post/posts involved. Clearly this is the easiest to obtain. If you try to achieve excellence in the other items, you will obtain excellence in post length.
- Post descriptions. If we can close our eyes and imagine exactly what your character is trying to do, then you have done a great job. The more the better, but not too much or we'll get confused ^^;;
- Staying in character. Some people think this is minor, but here on Kinamoto, there is a reason you made the character the way you did. This is actually fairly easy, seeing as you made the character and you should know their ins and outs. However, if we detect that your character was pushing themselves too hard and it is not in their character, we will dock you points. It is a minor number, but you never know when 1 EXP will mean something.
- Creative Problem Solving. If you're faced with a threat that a normal trainer could not beat (like having to cross a long ravine without any conventional way of getting to the other side), how would you go about solving that issue? Even something as mundane as 'hit that tree.' How does the character go about doing that?
- Accomplishment. Clearly you're trying to accomplish something. Granted, you cannot say 'and I gained a level,' because that assumes you would gain enough experience to do so, you can say 'and I feel a sense of accomplishment,' or, in the case of failure (which earns you the same amount of experience) 'and I learned something new.'
Though you will never see how you are evaluated (the admins/mods have their own ways of doing things like this), there is a standard on how they go about it, and you will see your overall grade. If you did not expect it, there is always next time, and always room to improve, but the admins/mods will be grading you fairly.
Learning a New Move [TMs and HMs]
Clearly we have a way for Pokemon to level up and learn another attack. That is simple and does not need to be confirmed, as we can all see where this is going. However, in the case of Pokemorph attacks, and in any Technical or Hidden Machine move that you did not use for sign up, you have to let us know. There are a few rules that go with it, obviously.
- As TMs and HMs are glorified CDs, you have to be in the presence of a computer of some sort. The Pokedex comes with a slot specifically for that. If you are out a Pokedex, you are SoL unless you got yourself a cellphone (as the TM/HM movie applications can be downloaded for the same price as a regular TM/HM from online), or a laptop of some sort. If you need any help on why this is the way it is, there is a tome specifically for this.
- You have to roleplay out how a Trainer would HELP a Pokemon LEARN the attack. Simply showing them the TM/HM movie will not magically get them to learn the attack. It will help, but the Trainer still has to do most of the work! Keep in mind that learning a TM/HM move gives the Pokemon and the Trainer Experience.
Whether your Pokemon learns the attack or not is based upon the admin/mod decision. Most times you will, unless you don't meet the post length requirement, or break a board rule, so you don't have to worry about too much. If you do not get it the first time, you keep trying. You'll get it eventually ^^
Evolution
Evolution is determined solely by whether a character's Pokemon/Morph meets requirements or not. Obviously if you have a stone evolution, or something simplistic a trade, you will get it so long as you have the desired items involved. However, for the more complicated evolutions (requiring a level up and/or a friendship/item/what have you) you're going to need a little more. Treat it like a normal level up in experience, as there is not a whole lot past that. If you have the other required items/friendship level, then you should be fine. If you do not gain the evolution, an admin or a mod should tell you WHY you did not receive said evolution. If they do not, report the offense to me, Violet, and I will see what I can do.
Friendship
Friendship, as outlined in the Friendship Levels tome, is monitored so incredibly loosely on this board. All you need for a Frendship Level increase is proof that your character and Pokemon have grown closer, which means a characterization of the level beforehand! That's all! For example, a Piplup with the Friendship level of 1 and his trainer, Todd, have traveled with each other for a few weeks, and have grown to slightly trust each other, so on and so forth. If Todd goes to apply for a Level 2 Friendship, all he has to do is roleplay a post or two describing that.
For Friendship, a separate topic does not have to be made. If you characterize what's going on in another topic, for like, say a basic experience gain, or a TM teaching session, then you should be fine! Just let the mod/admin know that that is what you are after as well, or they won't give it to you!
FINAL NOTE
IF, FOR WHATEVER REASON, A MODERATOR OR AN ADMIN HAS SEEMINGLY GIVEN YOU AN UNJUST AWARD, PLEASE CONTACT VIOLET. THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO TOLERATION FOR UNFAIR GRADING, BUT I ALSO WILL NOT TOLERATE MEMBERS WHO MAKE A FUSS ABOUT IT TO EVERYONE ELSE.

What Do You Want?: (Do you just want an experience total, or do you want a move added/changed and/or an evolution? What do you want changed?)
What They're Doing: (Give like a one sentence summary of what the admin or mod should expect when they read your topic.)
Topic URL: (Where's the topic? This helps the admins/mods go faster, and allows you to get your totals sooner. We will not fill out a request without this.)
