Hidden Machines, the moves used by pokemon to gain special skills to help their trainers off the field of battle. These skills are ones that many Pokemon know to begin with to various extents, but to use them to their full potential, a Hidden Machine must be used to teach the pokemon how useful that potential is.
Each pokemon can learn one Hidden Machine, and they cannot be replaced.
As for during battle, any pokemon who has the capability to use their special gifts may use it in battle, as much as any other move. Just be aware of some penalties that may occur.
Hidden Machines may be learned in an appropriate Gym, where, upon earning the Silver Level of a Badge, you will receive the ability for ONE of your pokemon to learn a Hidden Machine ONCE. If you wish to return to a gym to learn the Hidden Machine again, you have to battle them again for that right, but they may or may not allow you to use that Hidden Machine's abilities again if they deem you unfit.
